This magnificent refuge is inside you. Enter. Shatter the darkness that shrouds the doorway. Step around the poisonous vipers that slither at your feet attempting to throw you off course. Be bold. Be humble. Put away the incense and forget the incantations they taught you. Ask no permission from the authorities. Slip away. Close your eyes and follow your breath to the still place that leads to the invisible path that leads you home. - St. Teresa of Avila (1515-1582)

Did you know today is Puno Day?!!
Arrived in Puno this afternoon smack in the middle of Puno Day - the town´s annual celebration of the birth of Manco Capac, the first Inca. Haha we couldn´t have planned it better if we tried. The town is one big parade, full of marching bands and dancing children in feathery glittering costumes and smiling women looking on in bowler hats. Apparently the festivities last a week. Though probably the parade and celebrations have something to do with my first impression so far, I am really digging the vibe of Puno, the streets more windy and maze-like than Arequipa begging to be explored, the feeling in the streets more communal and cheerful. At the very outskirts of town too is Lake Titicaca, which we caught a shimmery, blue glimpse of through the hills as our bus drove on in. Tomorrow we shall set early sail on it. At 3830 m, it is the world´s highest navigable lake and all afternoon I have been feeling a slight headache from the altitude - though really not so bad. Hmmm maybe tonight I will try alpaca steak...?

Your blog is so enjoyable; I can just imagine how great it is being there. Your descriptions are so beautiful.
This one trip is actually turning into numerous trips, each one just as thrilling as the other. Keep the information flowing.
